Get the Flash Player to see this player. Welcome to Rewari Steam Loco Shed which re-opened on the 9th Oct 2010, join us in celebrating the return of the Steam Locomotives. The restoration of this heritage shed from a ruin, lost and forgotten, to its present grand state has been a long process involving timely funding and more than that the dedication, planning and expeditious execution by my Engineers. Rewari Steam Loco shed is now on its way to take its prominent place on the steam map of the world, it has had many visitors, besides steam enthusiasts from India and abroad, who have come to enjoy the steam engines in their full glory. There are many who are witnessing a working Steam Locomotive for the first time in their life. Seeing such huge machines at work is one the most humbling experience and perhaps, the most joyous one too. For the old timers, its pure nostalgia of an era gone by, where every child wanted to be an Engine Driver and blow the whistle. Full marks to my 25 'steam-men' of Rewari, who under the able leadership of Vikas, my Sr.DME/P have acheived the impossible, reviving 8 steam locos in such a short time is certainly an outstanding acheivement. Shyam Babu Saraswat, the executive engineer who managed the civil work and his outstanding team has also done wonders in resurrecting the heritage structure and adding more features to the place. The shed today is a world class tourist destination for Steam lovers and history buffs. It also has much to offer to the present generation who have'nt witnessed the glorious steam era, they can see a working Steam Engine for the first time here. We now 'fire' one Steam Engine every Sunday, No enrty fee is charged to see these beautiful machines. The shed has now resurrected the 1930 vintage IRS class XE 3634, which was put on steam after years on the 31st of March. This is another feather in Rewari Shed's cap !! The last two weeks also saw the Media taking a prominent note of the good work being done here, with leading dailies carrying great stories about the shed. The coverage can be seen in the 'Rewari News' Section of this site. The shed is today a vibrant, functional unit with motivated staff committed to the job of conserving these machines for posterity to relish. Come enjoy the charm of these Black Beauties and take home a piece of history with you. We sincerely hope that you enjoy your day at Rewari Steam Loco shed, celebrating the return of the Black Beauties back to steam. ![]() Ashwani Lohani. Divisional Railway Manager, Delhi.
